A product design collaboration for WATERBOYS with Eco By Ry, an LA based sustainable surf label led by surfer/shaper Ryan Harris, inspired by the application of alternative materials and the creation of new value chains from waste. This project demonstrates local manufacturing and the use of overlooked waste materials in the surfboard and surf fin building process to produce surf fins entirely made of "trash" that still deliver performance and quality.

Scrap materials such as shredded plastic, fiber glass, carbon fiber, and resin from previous surf manufacturing sessions that were used in the construction of the fins.

Initial prototyping directions experimenting with different colors and finishes that could be expected from the use of waste materials.

Collection of collaborative fins developed by It's the WaterBoys and Eco By Ry made of scrap and trash materials from the surf building process at Ryan Harris's shaping bay at Alta sea at the port of Los Angeles. We selected and refined templates inspired by the Greenough 4A, classic Bonzer fin, Upright MR style twin fins, Traditional twin keel fins, and a tagalong fin (just for fun).
